Annual mango festival begins
As many as 100 mango varieties have been showcased at the annual mango festival, organised by Calicut Agri-Horticultural Society, which began here.
Industries Minister E Kareem inaugurated the four-day long festival in which 40-odd varieties will be available for sale.
This is the 15th mango festival being organised by the Society.
The varieties on show this time include the huge `put' mango, besides those reminiscent of Mughal Emperors such as `Himayudi', `Benishar' and `Himapasand'.
Exhibits of rare mango varieties include those from the 102-year-old species specific government farm, Talipramba, the only one of its kind in the state.
Varieties like `malgova', `banganappalli', kudadat', `alphonso' and `chakkarakutti' besides mango saplings would be available on sale.
