Jayaram as Surya Narayanan in V M Vinu's Sooryan

The shooting of V M Vinu's latest flick titled Sooryan is fast progressing in Kozhikode. The film is about Harinarayanan, played by Saikumar a well-known Carnatic vocalist, and his family. He is forced to borrow heavily to meet his family's needs and even has to pledge the house at one stage.

Cheriyan (Suresh Krishna), a rich politician and friend of Harinarayanan's son, Suryanarayanan (Jayaram), comes to the rescue of the family, but at a price.

Like his father, Surya Narayanan too became a carnatic vocalist, but the sudden demise of his brother-in-law and the debts he created forced him to take up a job. Gets a job in the bank, meets his old friend, and finally resigns this job for a better one.

Jayaram has a bearded look in this film and the new look suits him.

Vimala Raman is the heroine of the film and is her third one. She plays Maya, a radio jockey. "It's an interesting character and acting with Jayaram has been a lot of fun", she said.

The film also has Kalaranjini, Harisree Asokan (who is clean-shaven and therefore barely recognisable), Vayalar Rana, Babu Swamy, Kozhikode Narayanan Nair and Zeenath.

There are six songs in the film, all written by Gireesh Puthenchery and composed by Ilayaraja.

The film, produced by Sreechakra Films, is written by newcomers Satheesh and Suresh. Utpal V Nayanar cranks the camera. The film is expected to release in June
