Encroachers will be given one week to vacate
As the campaign against encroachments and illegal constructions being extended to all districts in the state, the government decided to give one week's time to those put on notice to vacate on their own.
Disclosing this during his weekly cabinet briefing, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said this decision was taken in view of widespread complaints that sufficient time was not given to those on notice before the eviction machinery displaced them or pulled down the illegally constructions.
This, however, did not mean that the campaign against landgrab, which is going on at Munnar in Idukki district, was going to be soft-pedalled, he said.
In case the illegal holders refused to voluntarily give up their possessions within the allotted time, they would be removed from the place by the officials assigned for the mission, he added.
