Top officials own luxury flats for low cost
The news in connection with the corruption of top IAS-IPS officials in the state including taxes secretary had came to light just a day before the enforcement of government order in connection with the registration of properties.
Some of the top officials in the state had registered 37 among 41 flats in the Millennium Apartment owned by the officers' co-operative society, violating all the existing rules to evade from the new registration act. This malpractice had caused a loss of millions to the state government.
The flats are owned by Mara Pandyan, Arun Kumar Sinha, Dr K M Abraham, Ananthakrishnan and other top officials in the civil services.
According to the new law, the co-operative societies are exempted from stamp duties, but will have to pay two percent registration fee. The flats worth Rs 4-5 million will have to pay the registration fee based on the cost.
The officials responsible for the proper implementation of government orders, had registered the flats, violating all the prevailing laws just a day before the enforcement of new registration act.
