A Doha-based Indian has won US$ 1 million in a raffle prize draw organised by Qatar Duty Free, a subsidiary of Qatar Airways.

"I am so happy, this really is a gift from God," Varkey Thomas, said after winning the Dollar Millionaire raffle draw.

Thomas has been living in Qatar for 23 years. He bought the ticket before boarding a Qatar Airways flight to Kochi.

The raffle draw launched in May 2006 selects one millionaire and two others who get a luxury car each, according to a press release.

Each draw is made after 5,000 tickets are sold. Departing and transit passengers at Doha International Airport can buy the raffle tickets.

A Jordanian won a BMW convertible and a Canadian Mercedes-Benz.
