Race is a 2008 Bollywood film directed by director duo Abbas-Mustan and produced under the Tips Films banner. Remake of Hollywood's GoodBye Lover. Released on March 21st 2008 worldwide, it stars Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Sameera Reddy and Katrina Kaif pivotal roles.

The film also stars Dilip Tahil and Johnny Lever for thriller and comedy sketches. Set and mostly filmed in Durban,South Africa and Dubai, Race is a is a comedy, thriller and action which explores themes of sibling rivalry, betrayal and passion. Although receiving a mixed response from critics, Race went on to be the second Bollywood hit of 2008 behind Jodhaa Akbar. The film grossed a total of Rs.471, 249, 668 in India, £880,423 in the United Kingdom and $ 1,376,024 in the United States of America.

Ranvir Singh (Saif Ali Khan) is a rich, dedicated and adventurous individual. He is the owner of a successful ranch house known as the Stallions. He frequently bets on horse races against the rich business owner, Kabir Ahuja (Dilip Tahil). While Ranvir is adventurous, cunning and clever, his younger brother, Rajiv (Akshay Khanna) is an alcoholic and a bad loser.

Ranvir has a relationship with Sonia (Bipasha Basu). Sonia is slowly climbing up the ladder of success in the modeling industry. While Ranvir develops his relationship with Sonia, his secretary, Sophia (Katrina Kaif), likes him too. Ranvir mistakes Sophia's love and care for her efficiency.

One day, Ranvir is involved in a car crash on the way back from work. A party is held to celebrate his quick recovery. Here, Ranvir introduces Sonia to Rajiv. In an instant, Rajiv falls in love with her and claims that if she were to come into his life, he would give up alcohol forever.

Ranvir links the two up by lying about a past girlfriend's return. He leaves them alone so they could have dinner together. From the dinner onwards, Rajiv and Sonia get extremely close -- so close that Sonia asks for Rajiv's hand in marriage.

But Rajiv disagrees, asking why anyone would want to marry her after reading her record. Her record reports that she was born and brought up in an orphanage. By the age of 15, she had done such awful things that the court sent her to a remand home. At the remand home, when the janitor caught Sonia trying to escape, Sonia accused him of trying to molest her. She became a bar dancer. When Soniya tried to steal the bar's earnings, the owner of the bar caught her. She killed him.

Rajiv says that he had known about Sonia's past and her plans to seize Ranvir's business. Rajiv says that his guilty father did only one good deed in his life, and that was to place a life insurance policy on his two sons' heads. The two plan to kill Ranvir so that they inherit $100 million dollars from a double indemnity clause in their life insurance policy.

The two get married and Rajiv apparently goes back to his alcoholic ways. When Ranvir witnesses this, he slaps Rajiv and asks him why he lied to him. The first step of Rajiv's plan was to convince Ranvir that by marrying Sonia to an alcoholic, he has made a very big mistake.

In the last horse race, Ranvir lost money betting against Kabir Ahuja. Sophia informs Ranvir that a client was ready to buy one of his properties. She booked two tickets for Cape Town to sell the property.

On a following rainy night, while Ranvir is out training one of his horses, Sonia and Rajiv are back at the house planning their next step. Rajiv says that Sonia must meet Ranvir in the stable in order to cheat on Rajiv. She goes to the stable and pretends to confront Ranvir about why he got her married to an alcoholic. Ranvir admits to have genuinely loved her and the two make love while Rajiv watches from a camera focused upon them and only them.

After Ranvir sleeps with Sonia, he flies to Cape Town where Sonia tries to seduce him again. Sonia turns up at a club that he's visiting. Ranvir tells her to go away and to forget about whatever happened between them. Sonia threatens to tell Rajiv then leaves to join the car where Rajiv quietly watched everything.

After Ranvir and Sophia's arrival, Rajiv bursts into Ranvir's cabin, shouting about Sonia having an affair with a strange man. Ranvir is uneasy but nevertheless hides the truth from both Rajiv and Sophia. Rajiv then meets Sonia at the ranch house and the two plan their final step. Rajiv narrates that in order for him to inherit his brother's money, Ranvir must die in an accident. The plan was that when Rajiv calls Ranvir saying that he's committing suicide to get out of him and Sonia's way, Ranvir will automatically come to the top of the office building to prevent Rajiv's suicide. When Ranvir tries to stop him Soniy will come from behind and push him off the building. They will then tell the police that Ranvir was not pushed, but lost his balance when trying to rescue him.

But before the plan is set to commence, Sonia goes and informs Ranvir of Rajiv's plan, revealing that Sonia was in fact, in alliance with Ranvir all along. Ranvir says that the plan will stay as it is, but instead of pushing him, Soniya will push Rajiv instead.

After dropping Sophia off to her house, Ranvir receives a phone call from Rajiv and so begins the plan. When Ranvir arrives at the scene of suicide he sits next to Rajiv on the edge of the building and Sonia comes from behind and pushes Ranvir off the building instead, saying that she still loves him but the twenty million dollar cut she was going to get from his inheritance was too much to let go of.

Ranvir dies and so his death is investigated by the R.D.(Anil Kapoor) and his assistant Milly (Sameera Reddy) and they talk with Rajiv and Sophia. Rajiv tells him that it was his fault because of his alcohol habit. R.D. leaves but does not seem satisfied.

Thereafter the next day RD starts to question Ranvir employees where you see a distressed Sophiya who starts crying as she just found out that Ranvir died. Apparently she was Ranvir wife. RD asks for her marriage certificate. On the other hand soniya is angry that the insurance money will go to Sophiya. Rajiv says to Sonia that he will get Sophiya killed. He takes Sonia to a contract killer and gives him the money and the photo of the girl. Sophiya arrives home but she gets scared about someone following her. She turns and sees someone and says you scared me and hugs Rajiv. It turns out that Sophiya and Rajiv loves each other.

Also Rajiv gave Sonia's picture to the contract killer to kill her while she was with him at the moment. R.D. finds out that Rajiv and Sophiya are lovers and the marriage with Ranvir was a deceit. He asks for 25% of the insurance money as bribery. When Sophiya gets the money she goes with Rajiv. Sonia follows them and Rajiv realises that she is following them. They go to a car park where the contract killer is in his truck ready to kill Sonia. Rajiv puts his thumbs down and drives off. Here we find out that Ranvir is alive and he saves Sonia by killing the contract killer.

Sophiya and Rajiv return home where they hear a tape of Rajiv talking about his Race and he defeating the Race of life aganist Ranvir. Ranvir comes face to face with Rajiv and asks him why did he want to kill him and it is known that Rajiv hates Ranvir. Sonia comes in to the room and Rajiv and Sophiya are shocked. Ranvir says to Rajiv that, "Let's have one more Race, who ever wins, the money, and life is his." They go to a race ground where Ranvir arrives in a sports car and Rajiv says to Ranvir that anyone can win in this car and therefore Ranvir swapped the cars with Rajiv's.

As they are driving Ranvir and Sonia realise there are no brakes in the car. Rajiv says i will see you in hell in 60 years. However Ranvir says to Rajiv and Sophiya in the other car that it the car speed goes low than 100mph then the car will explode.

Ranvir cannot stop the car and Rajiv cannot willingly stop the car. Ranvir and Rajiv see children coming towards them and they go to a side road where Rajiv's car crashes and explodes killing him and Sophiya. Ranvir manages to stop the car by stopping next to a strong statue. He reveals that he made the race fair but Rajiv did not. There was mo bomb in the car.

Next, we see Sonia collecting another 100 million from the bank for Rajiv's insurance. Ranvir now has 200 million. R.D. stops him midway and we have flashbacks of how Ranvir survived. There was a fake body used and there was a belt tied to a pully to stop him from falling. Ranvir and Sonia give money to R.D. and Milly and both couples go their respected ways.
