Thiruvananthapuram district records 89.5 pc pass in SSLC examination 2008
Thiruvananthapuram district which had the second largest number of students appearing for the SSLC examinations in March this year (44,080 students) registered a pass percentage of 89.5. Of the 21,928 boys and 22,152 girls who appeared for the exam, 19,136 boys and 20,330 girls have been declared eligible for higher studies.
The district is behind 11 other districts in the total pass percentage. In the educational district-wise list, Thiruvananthapuram educational district has 329 candidates with A+ in all subjects. In Neyyattinkara educational district, 184 candidates have got A+ in all subjects and in Attingal educational district, 192 candidates secured A+ in all subjects.
The adopted schools in Thiruvananthapuram revenue district have also registered good results. The schools and the pass percentage are: Government Tribal HS Meenankal - 93, LMS HSS Vattappara - 87, Government VHSS Vellanad - 92, NSS HSS Kesavadasapuram - 83, Government HS Kattachakonam - 95, Government HS Kalady - 94, Government HS for Boys Karamana - 83 and Government VHSS Poovar - 76.
Mithraniketan HS and SAHSS Kowdiar are the other adopted schools. Of the 492 students of Mithraniketan HS who appeared, 451 have passed. In SAHSS, all the 37 who appeared have passed.
In the Corporation limits, 3,548 students from 30 government schools appeared for the SSLC exam, out of which 3,293 got eligibility for higher studies. The pass percentage this year is 92.81 percentage, according to GR Anil, chairman, Corporation Health and Education Standing Committee. Last year, the pass percentage was 79.7 percentage, he said.
Of these 30 schools, three schools got 100 percentage results. They are, Tamil HS, Chalai; City HS, PMG and Fisheries HS, Valiathura. City HS, PMG had got 100 percentage result last year also.
There are five schools where one student has not passed the exam. The Corporation has been spearheading the ‘noorumeni’ project aimed at improving the SSLC pass percentage of the government schools.
"Our survey had found that hardly six percentage of the students hail from families which have fixed income," said Anil. Nearly Rs 5 lakh had been earmarked for holding special classes for the children and to provide them with all support.
Government School for Blind, Vazhuthacaud, registered 100 percentage pass and all the five candidates - Anusree, Aby Titus, Tushanth, Syamdas and Libin Anto - got eligibility for higher studies.
The Government VHSS for the Deaf, Jagathy, also got cent percent results. All the 25 students who appeared for SSLC and the three students who appeared for THSLC got eligibility for higher studies. It is after a few years that the school is getting cent percent results.
At Government Boys’ Home, Poojappura, of the 13 students who appeared for the exam, 11 have passed. In the case of Sree Chithra Poor Home, 19 out of 22 students who appeared for the exam got eligibility for higher studies.
St Mary’s HSS, Pattom, which had the largest number of SSLC students appearing for the exam this year in the entire State, registered a pass percentage of 96.3. Though 1,412 students appeared for the exam, the result of one student has been withheld. As many as 1,359 students got eligibility for higher studies and 43 students got A+ in all subjects.
"This year’s percentage is two percentage higher than last year’s," said principal Fr George Mathew.
