In 1994 New York City, Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) is a teenage pot dealer who trades his product for therapy sessions with psychiatrist Dr. Jeffrey Squires (Ben Kingsley). Both men are terribly depressed. Luke is a virgin desperately trying to arrange his first time, while Dr. Squires' marriage to his drug-addled wife (Famke Janssen) is falling apart. Together, they travel through NYC's seemy underbelly to connect with a wide array of freaks and weirdos, including a hippie chick (Mary-Kate Olsen) and a New Wave musician (Jane Adams).
