When her husband walks out on her after having gambled away all of the family's savings, Ray Eddy (Melissa Leo) is desperate to find a way to make ends meet. Opportunity knocks on her door in the form of Lila Littlewolf (Misty Upham), a Mohawk woman who smuggles illegal immigrants into the U.S. Ray becomes Lila's main driver and the two women must put their differences aside to transfer their latest group of illegals across the frozen St. Lawrence River.
