Nayanthara Criticized: “Only Holds Her Child When She Sees a Camera

From the day they were born, Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan’s twin sons, Uyir and Ulagam, have been celebrities in their own right. Just three months after their wedding, the couple welcomed their children via surrogacy, having completed all legal formalities during the first year of their relationship. The couple ensured compliance with all Indian laws governing surrogacy.

One of the twins resembles Vignesh, while the other looks like Nayanthara as a child. The couple places great importance on their children’s privacy, which is why they released their photos only after their first birthday.

Since their birth, Nayanthara and Vignesh have been hands-on parents, personally caring for their kids despite their busy schedules. Their social media profiles are filled with moments of Uyir and Ulagam.

However, a recent video of Nayanthara at the Mumbai airport has sparked widespread criticism. In the video, she appears in a white kurta paired with a heavy dupatta and a simple hairstyle. Accompanying her were Vignesh and three nannies, who carried the children and luggage.

The controversy arose when Nayanthara took one of her sons from a nanny’s arms only upon entering the airport, just as cameras began filming. Until then, one nanny was seen carrying the child in one hand and a bag in the other, while Vignesh carried the other son.

Commenters accused Nayanthara of picking up her child only for the sake of appearances, with remarks like, “She only holds her child when the camera is on,” and “Even loving her kids is delegated to nannies.” Some criticized her behavior as a publicity stunt, comparing her to celebrities like Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai.

While some praised Vignesh for personally carrying his child, Nayanthara has faced similar backlash for opting for surrogacy. However, Vignesh often states that Nayanthara is the best mother he has ever seen.

In India, surrogacy is legal but comes with regulations, such as requiring a couple to have medical conditions like infertility and to have been married for at least five years. Nayanthara and Vignesh reportedly adhered to all these rules.
