The release dates for the two parts of Ramayana, which is set to be the most expensive film in India, have been announced. The first part will be released during Diwali 2026, and the second part will release during Diwali 2027. Namit Malhotra, one of the film’s producers, shared this news on social media.
“More than 5,000 years of this epic, which has found a place in the hearts of millions of people, will be brought to the big screen. The desire to bring this epic to the screen started a decade ago. Today, I am filled with excitement as I see it taking shape through our team’s tireless efforts. Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing this grand epic to the big screen with pride and respect,” Namit Malhotra wrote on social media.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being made with a budget of approximately ₹835 crore. The film is produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash. Ranbir Kapoor will play the role of Rama, while Sai Pallavi will portray Sita. Yash will play Ravana.
Reports suggest that Sunny Deol will appear as Hanuman, while Lara Dutta and Rakul Preet Singh will play Kaikeyi and Shurpanakha, respectively. There are also indications that Bobby Deol might portray Kumbhakarna. Initially, Alia Bhatt was selected to play Sita, but she later backed out.
The visual effects of Ramayana will be handled by the Oscar-winning DNEG company. The first part will focus on Rama and Sita, while the second part will center around Ravana’s arrival, which will be filmed in Sri Lanka. The second part will give more prominence to Ravana. Meanwhile, there have been reports that Ranbir Kapoor has given up non-vegetarian food, parties, and alcohol for the role.
