1 Person Rescued, Search Underway for 3 Others After Boat Sinks in US’ Seattle  

 

 Overnight Boating Incident Prompts Emergency Response  

A late-night boating incident at the Seattle’s Puget Sound has left one person saved and three others still missing following a boat’s capsize in the frigid waters According to U.S. Coast Guard. The incident took place shortly before midnight close to Alki Point, the location where a small, private vessel was said to be getting soaked before sinking completely.

Emergency calls were made around 11.52 p.m., prompting an immediate search-and-rescue response from various agencies including those from the Coast Guard, Seattle Fire Department and marine units of the police.

 Survivor Pulled From Water  

One person was rescued around 45 mins after the vessel crashed. Officials confirmed that the individual was in a safety jacket and was able to hold onto an inflatable cooler until help arrived.

Lt. Cmdr. Trevor Dunbar of the U.S. Coast Guard stated:

 “The rescuer is stable and recovering at an Seattle hospital. The search for the remaining three remain ongoing and are our first priority.”

 Search Intensifies for Missing Boaters  

As the sun sets dawn, it is now dark. searching for three missing persons continues throughout a large region that includes Puget Sound, with helicopters as well as rescue divers vessels fitted with sonar all participating in the search.

Authorities haven’t yet revealed the names of those who are on the boat, however all are believed to be residents of the area in their 30s and 40s.

According to authorities, water temperatures in the region are in the 50’s (10degC), making it difficult to sustain a long time without the proper equipment.

 Weather and Conditions Pose Challenges  

Low visibility and choppy waters initially hindered rescue operations. While the weather has improved this morning, timing is the most important factor. A statement issued by Seattle’s National Weather Service Seattle warned of continuing difficult conditions through the afternoon.

 Authorities Urge Boating Safety  

The Coast Guard has once again advised boaters to be wearing life jackets. be aware of the weather conditions, and check that communications devices are in place prior to entering open water.

Checklist for safety on the boat includes:

  •   Wear certified life jackets

  •   Use marine VHF radios

  •   Create floats with your friends and family.

  •   Flashlights, flares, and other waterproof items

 Community On Alert  

Local fishermen and local volunteers are also part of the search efforts. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell tweeted his support to the families that are affected, saying:

 “Our our thoughts and prayers go out to the people who remain missing. We’re thankful to our initial emergency responders for their unwavering efforts.”

Services for emergency assistance continue to provide updates on the hourly public service and have asked that private vessels be kept out of the search zone to prevent interruptions.
