Shiva Karthikeyan’s latest film, Amaran, has stormed the box office, hitting the 100-crore mark within just three days of release. With this achievement, Amaran has become Shiva Karthikeyan’s third film to enter the 100-crore club, following the success of Doctor and Don. This stellar performance has sparked discussions on whether Shiva Karthikeyan could be a successor to stars like Vijay, as he continues to climb Kollywood’s ranks.
The film’s collection on the opening day reportedly reached 21.65 crore, with 17 crore from the Tamil version alone. Additional revenue came from dubbed releases in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. If the strong box-office trend continues, Amaran is on track to become Shiva Karthikeyan’s first 200-crore film.
Amaran is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a valorous Indian army officer who led an anti-terrorism operation in a village in South Kashmir in 2014. Mukund was tragically injured during the mission and succumbed to his wounds after reaching the hospital. Shiva Karthikeyan portrays Mukund with a depth that critics and audiences alike have praised, describing the film as deeply moving and calling Shiva’s performance one of his best to date. Sai Pallavi stars as Indu Rebecca Varghese, Mukund’s Malayali wife, delivering an equally powerful performance alongside the lead.
Amaran has also set a record on BookMyShow for selling the most tickets within an hour this year, surpassing Vijay’s film The Gotti. Produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raj Kamal Films in collaboration with Sony Pictures, with music by G.V. Prakash Kumar, the film has resonated with audiences for its heartfelt storytelling and patriotic theme. As fans eagerly anticipate the next milestone, many believe Amaran is poised to make history as Shiva Karthikeyan’s highest-grossing film.
