Vinayakan and Suraj face off in Thekku Vadakku; the film heads to OTT

Thekku Vadakku, starring beloved Malayalam actors Vinayakan and Suraj Venjaramoodu in lead roles, is set to release on OTT after its successful theatrical run. Directed by Prem Shankar, the film was well-received in theaters. Vinayakan and Suraj portrayed middle-aged characters in this drama, which is now slated for its OTT debut months after its theatrical release. Reports suggest the movie will be available on OTT starting November 19.

This marks the first time Vinayakan and Suraj Venjaramoodu share the lead screen space. The film, centered around comedy, received mixed reviews in theaters. It is based on the story Rathri Kaaval by S. Hareesh, who also penned the screenplay. Produced under the banners of Anjana Theaters and Vars Studios by Anjana Philip and V.A. Sreekumar, the movie dives into a unique narrative.

The story revolves around Madhavan, a retired KSEB engineer, and Shankunni, a mill owner. These two central characters have been locked in a feud for over 30 years over a property dispute. Their rivalry and constant efforts to outdo each other drive the narrative.

Though the story delves into a serious theme of vengeance, it is narrated with a subtle comedic undertone. Thekku Vadakku transitions seamlessly between flashbacks and the present, with the writing by S. Hareesh and Prem Shankar’s direction ensuring the plot remains intact.

One of the film’s standout aspects is its performances, particularly by Vinayakan and Suraj. Vinayakan, known for his fierce villainous role in Jailer, takes on a completely different character here. With a bald head, graying mustache, and unique mannerisms, Vinayakan delivers a brilliant performance.

While Vinayakan shines in the first half, the second half belongs to Suraj Venjaramoodu. His character, Shankunni, devises new schemes to outwit his rival, but the victory feels hollow. Suraj’s portrayal underscores the idea that vengeance remains buried deep in the human heart, even after death—a message that resonates strongly with viewers.
