Director Shankar recently addressed the unexpected negative response to Indian 2, the sequel to the 1996 film Indian, starring Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan. Despite high expectations, Indian 2 faced severe criticism, particularly for its script and direction, leading to a backlash and meme-filled response on social media. Additionally, the film’s disappointing box office performance led to rumors that Indian 3 might skip a theatrical release and go straight to streaming platforms.
However, Shankar has now clarified that Indian 3 will indeed have a theatrical release. Speaking in an interview with Vikatan, he stated, “I never expected such criticism for Indian 2. Despite the response, Indian 3 will definitely be accepted by the audience.” This statement assures fans that the third installment will carry forward the legacy of the franchise in cinemas.
Meanwhile, Shankar’s upcoming film Game Changer, starring Ram Charan, is scheduled for release on January 10, 2025. The director expressed immense satisfaction with the project, saying, “Game Changer is a lifetime role for Ram Charan. It will be a high-energy film with a brilliant script.”
In Indian 2, the star cast included Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalidas Jayaram, Bobby Simha, Guru Somesundaram, Mano Bala, Vennela Kishore, and Deepa Shankar. The film was produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies.
