Salim Kumar, one of Malayalam cinema’s most beloved actors, recently shared a challenging and uncomfortable experience from his early career. Known for iconic comedic roles like Manavalan and Pyare, and later celebrated as a National Award-winning actor, Salim Kumar’s candid revelations have sparked discussions online.

Salim Kumar recounted a moment when he was asked to deliver a vulgar dialogue during a film shoot in Fort Kochi. He initially refused, stating to the director and writer, “This dialogue is outright crude. I cannot say it.” Despite his objections, the team insisted. Veteran actor Jagadish, who was present, intervened as a mediator, advising Salim Kumar to reconsider.

However, Salim Kumar explained his apprehension to the director, saying:
“This film might not do well in theaters, but it will eventually air on television. Twenty-five years from now, my son will be of marriageable age. Imagine his future in-laws watching this movie on TV—how embarrassing would that be for me?”

Although his argument didn’t persuade the team, Salim Kumar stood firm in his stance. Reflecting on this after nearly 25 years, he emphasized the importance of maintaining personal integrity, even under pressure.

Salim Kumar also addressed the recent “Thanta Vibe” phenomenon popularized by younger generations on social media. The term is often used humorously but sometimes mockingly to describe older generations.

“It’s okay; they can call us that. But let me ask something: people of our generation invented computers, mobile phones, and all the gadgets they now use. What have these so-called ‘2K kids’ invented? A good tea shop or a great snack stall? That’s it,” he said, adding his characteristic humor while subtly pointing out the overdependence of younger generations on the innovations of the past.
