Basil Joseph to Take a Break from Cinema

Basil Joseph, celebrated as one of Malayalam cinema’s most dependable stars and directors, has decided to take a year-long break from the industry. The announcement comes after his recent blockbuster Sookshmadarshini, which not only marked a triumphant return for Nazriya Nazim but also reaffirmed Basil’s status as a bankable actor. Directed by MC Jithin and written by Athul Ramachandran and Libin Tibi, the film has already crossed the ₹50 crore mark at the box office, further solidifying Basil’s reputation as a “minimum guarantee” star.

Despite his back-to-back successes as both an actor and director, Basil has revealed his desire to step away from the limelight temporarily. “For the past three years, I have been continuously working on films every single day. Now, I feel the need to take a break and spend time with my family,” said the actor.

Basil added that he plans to take this break after the release of his upcoming films, Pravinkoodu Shaap, Maranamaas, and Ponman. “After these projects, I’ll be taking a year off. People will miss me and wonder where I’ve gone,” he joked in his trademark humorous style.

Basil, who is also a proud father, shared his joy in spending time with his daughter, Hope. “Being a father is a feeling like no other. You don’t need parenting books to prepare for it. Just hearing her call me ‘appa’ is enough. Watching her run around and make noise is pure joy,” he said, emphasizing the importance of dedicating time to his family.
