Mammootty the legendary actor who has been a dominant figure in Indian cinema for decades, recently shared his reflections on his early career and some of the roles he played. Known for his vast array of characters in multiple languages, Mammootty’s career continues to surprise and captivate audiences even in his seventies. However, the actor confessed that there are certain films from his early career that still make him feel embarrassed.
Talking about the film Thirashna, written by M.T. Vasudevan Nair and directed by I.V. Sasi, Mammootty said, “I still feel embarrassed watching that film. I feel a sense of frustration and regret. From there, to where I am now, it is a journey of peace for me. But beyond that, I don’t think much. Because when I was acting in that film, I had neither the excitement nor the deep passion for acting that I have today. I didn’t know the craft of acting. Honestly, Thirashna was more of a joke for me. It was a time when I had no understanding of acting.”
He also mentioned that if he had acted in that movie today, with his vast experience and knowledge, he would have approached the character differently, giving it more justice. “I feel that with the experience I have now, I could have portrayed that character in a much better way,” Mammootty admitted.
The actor also spoke about his role in Pappettan’s (Padmarajan) Arappetta Kettiya Gramathu as the character Zakariya. “Even today, I feel uncomfortable watching that character. Zakariya was not just a hero, he was a man with strength, with the courage to face anything. There was something powerful about that character that I feel could have been portrayed even better,” Mammootty reflected.
These candid remarks from the megastar have resonated with his fans, as they offer an insight into his growth and evolution as an actor over the years. Despite his unmatched legacy, Mammootty remains humble, always looking for ways to improve his craft
