Asif Ali one of Malayalam cinema’s most admired stars, has carved his way to success without any industry connections. Through sheer hard work and talent, he has risen to prominence, gradually establishing a strong foothold with smaller films. In 2024, Asif Ali delivered consecutive hits and stellar performances, making it a landmark year in his career. His remarkable comeback from a string of failures silenced his critics, many of whom had written him off in earlier years. In 2024, he shone with films like Kishkindha Kaandam, Adios Amigo, Thalavan, and Level Cross.
However, Asif Ali’s personal habits have sometimes drawn criticism. A common complaint in the Malayalam film industry is that Asif Ali rarely answers phone calls. Addressing this in an interview with Kudumbam magazine, he opened up about this trait.
When asked, “Are you someone who’s difficult to reach by phone?” Asif responded:
“Yes, that’s a bad habit of mine, and I have no intention of changing it. I genuinely enjoy it. We’ve been talking here for so long, and I haven’t received a single phone call. I didn’t have to get up in the middle, and we could talk without losing focus. That freedom wouldn’t be possible if I were glued to my phone.”
Asif Ali admits that he has found ways to manage his commitments without being dependent on his phone. “I’ve hired someone to handle my work so I can avoid using my phone frequently. However, I must admit, not answering calls has cost me dearly. I’ve missed important connections and lost out on many good films. But I believe if something is truly meant for us, it will come our way. That’s how I make peace with it,” he said.Currently, Asif Ali is celebrating the success of Kishkindha Kaandam and is determined to replicate that success in the coming year. His upcoming film, Rekha Chithram, directed by Anashwara Rajan, explores an alternate history narrative, a fresh concept in Malayalam cinema. He also has big projects like Tikki Tack lined up, promising another eventful year for the actor.
