The much-awaited film MeiYazhakan, starring Karthi and Arvind Swami in lead roles, is set for its OTT release. The movie will be available for streaming on Netflix starting October 25. The film will be accessible in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages. Directed and written by Prem Kumar, who previously helmed the blockbuster 96, MeiYazhakan marks Karthi’s 27th film. Notably, it is produced by Suriya and Jyothika.
MeiYazhakan had its theatrical release on September 27. Following the initial screenings, the film’s runtime, originally 2 hours and 57 minutes, was trimmed by about 18 minutes based on fan requests. These deleted scenes were later released on YouTube. Karthi plays the title role, while Arvind Swami portrays Arunmozhi Varman.
The film dives deep into Tamil culture, telling a story of relationships. The plot follows Arunmozhi, who, after being forced to leave his hometown overnight, returns after 22 years. Arvind Swami’s performance as Arunmozhi, who is torn between nostalgia and fear, is impressive. As he reconnects with his forgotten identity, the audience learns why the film is titled MeiYazhakan only towards the end.
Prem Kumar has beautifully depicted Arunmozhi’s gradual connection with his memories. The portrayal of a love that couldn’t be fulfilled, captured in a single shot, is mesmerizing. The movie also handles the theme of paasam (affection), often mocked in Tamil cinema, in a way that is sure to move viewers. With a mix of emotional and light-hearted moments, MeiYazhakan emerges as one of the best films of the year, blending a heartwarming first half with an emotionally satisfying second half.
The cast also includes Raj Kiran, Sri Divya, Swathi Konde, Devadarshini, Jayaprakash, Sriranjini, Ilavarasu, Karunakaran, Sharan Shakti, Rachel Rebecca, Malai Anthony, Rajkumar, Indhumathi Manikandan, Rani Samyuktha, Kayal Subramani, Ashok Pandian, and others in supporting roles.
