Actress Nazriya who made a successful return to Malayalam cinema after a four-year hiatus, recently shared her thoughts on her career and personal experiences. She returned with the film Sookshmadarshini, directed by Basil Joseph, where she showcased a different side of her acting abilities.
Dealing with Typecasting
In her recent interview, Nazriya discussed how she doesn’t feel like she’s been typecast, despite people often referring to her as “cute” or “the little girl next door.” She said, “I’ve never felt like my roles have been repetitive. People often call me cute, but Sookshmadarshini gave me a chance to play a very different character. The image of being ‘the girl next door’ is not a problem at all, because people we know, in our own neighborhoods, are all different from each other.”
Family’s Influence and Expectations
Nazriya also opened up about the expectations her family has of her, joking that even after marriage, her mother still calls her “the little girl.” “Even after my marriage, my mother reminds me that I’m still her child. She tells me that when I get serious, I can be very serious, but she still scolds me when I get a haircut, just like any other mother would,” Nazriya laughed, adding that all girls face similar issues with their families.
No Regrets About Taking a Break
The actress shared that she has never regretted taking a break from films. She clarified, “I never missed cinema. I was fortunate to have started acting at a young age. Even after marriage, I stayed connected to the industry, working in production and assisting with Fahadh Faasil’s projects. During my break, I had the time to reflect and pursue other aspects of life.”
Nazriya expressed that her break was a conscious decision to take on more meaningful and diverse roles rather than doing similar kinds of characters. “I wanted to be part of good stories. That was the reason for my break, but I never said I wouldn’t act again. Now, I’m very happy with the direction my life is going in. I am doing stories I believe in and spending quality time with my loved ones,” she added.
Still the ‘Little Girl’ for Fans
Despite her growth and evolution as an actress, Nazriya still retains her youthful charm and continues to be loved by her fans as the “little girl” they first saw on screen.
