Gauri Khan, renowned producer and wife of Shah Rukh Khan, recently revisited an old interview where she spoke about the challenges in the early days of their marriage. Her candid revelations about Shah Rukh’s possessive nature have resurfaced on social media, sparking discussions.
In a 1997 interview with Simi Garewal, Gauri shared, “Shah Rukh was extremely possessive, and it was unbearable for me. He wouldn’t let me wear clothes of my choice. For instance, he didn’t allow me to wear a white shirt because he thought it was too transparent.” She revealed that this behavior led to conflicts and, at one point, she even walked away, telling him, “If you don’t change, you won’t see me again.”
Shah Rukh, reflecting on his past behavior, admitted it was a mistake. “I was insecure, and that insecurity made me act in such a terrible way. I knew Gauri, but others didn’t, and I was worried about what they might think of her. I felt it was my responsibility to protect her image. Looking back, it was a very low point for me,” he confessed.
Gauri added that the turning point in their relationship came when Shah Rukh recognized his fault and made efforts to change. This openness and willingness to grow strengthened their bond over time.
Their story is now seen as an example of how understanding and compromise can overcome challenges in relationships.
