The serial Uppum Mulakum is a show even critics of television serials enjoy. It quickly won the hearts of audiences. Its unique approach, distinct from typical styles, is what made it so widely accepted. It has become one of the few television serials that doesn’t bore viewers. The characters—Balu, Neelima, and their children Mudiyan, Lechu, Keshu, Shiva, and Parukutty—are like family members to the audience.
Actress Nisha Sarang gained immense popularity through this show, which also opened doors to more opportunities in films. Her portrayal of Neelu, a loving and caring mother, made her a household favorite.
On-screen, she plays a mother to five kids; off-screen, she says she has eight children, including her two real children and a grandchild. Nisha is like a second mother to the young actors who play her children on the show. Over the years, these kids have come to call her “Neelu Amma.” Recently, a new baby character was introduced to the show, making her bond with her on-screen children even stronger.
When asked who she is closest to among her reel-life children, Nisha unhesitatingly said it’s Parukutty. In the show, Parukutty is the youngest daughter of Neelu and Balu, played by Baby Ameya.
Not just in the serial, but even in real life, Parukutty holds a special place in Nisha’s heart. Recently, Nisha’s heartfelt words about her bond with Parukutty have gained attention. When asked which cast member she feels the deepest connection with, she shared her thoughts about Parukutty.
“In the serial, I like Paru the most. She’s like my own little girl. Recently, I had a health scare on the sets of Uppum Mulakum. I fainted due to high blood pressure while acting with her. After that, for over an hour, the child cried. She was inconsolable, asking, ‘What happened to Amma? I want to see Amma!’ Even the other cast members told me how deeply affected she was,” said Nisha.
Parukutty joined the show at just three months old and has been adored by fans ever since. Her mischievous antics, innocent smiles, and heartwarming moments have captivated viewers. Malayalis treat her like a child from their own family. Parukutty, known as Baby Ameya, is now a school student but still holds the unique distinction of being the youngest child actor to enter the entertainment industry at just three months old.
Besides Uppum Mulakum, Ameya has also appeared in serials like Swargavaathil Pakshi. Nisha, meanwhile, began her film career with Agnisaakshi and most recently appeared in the movie Paalum Pazhavum.
