That Title Is a Burden for Me, I Don’t Want to Be Known By It” – Nayanthara

Nayanthara, the celebrated South Indian actress, has firmly addressed the title of “Lady Superstar” that her fans have bestowed upon her. While she has earned significant respect and admiration for her roles, Nayanthara clarifies that she doesn’t see the title as an accurate reflection of her career. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, she expressed her discomfort with the label

“The title Lady Superstar has been a burden in my life. I can’t even explain the difficulties it has caused me. It’s like extra baggage. For the past five or six years, I’ve been asking my producers and directors not to include that title card in my films. I have literally begged them. I fear that I might not deserve it in my career. It’s not a title I defined for myself, and I have never tried to take anyone else’s place. I don’t want such titles.”

Despite her discomfort, Nayanthara acknowledges the affection and respect her fans have for her, and while she cannot erase the label entirely, she understands why people continue to call her that. She also notes the subtle jealousy that some people, especially men, may feel when a woman succeeds or outperforms them.“When people call me by that title, I realize that it often causes envy, especially among men, when they see a woman achieving success or feeling that she’s surpassing them. I try to understand why they have an issue with a successful woman, but I never get a clear answer.” Nayanthara’s candid response reveals her personal struggle with being defined by a title that she feels doesn’t align with her identity or her ambitions in the film industry.
