The landslide disaster that brought sorrow to the global conscience is now being portrayed in the upcoming movie Urul. Since its announcement, excitement has been building around this first film inspired by such a tragedy. Directed by Mummy Century under the banner of Building Designers, Urul was filmed in locations like Idukki, Kodanad, and Malayattoor. Set against the backdrop of a landslide, the movie highlights the importance of family bonds and tells the story of a village’s struggle.

Urul centers around Johnny, a shop owner in the hillside village of Parammala. He lives a joyful life with his wife, one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, mother, and sister Jasmine. The family is preparing for Jasmine’s wedding to Prince, a young man from their village, set for the second day of the Chingam month. Just as everything seems to be going smoothly, a devastating landslide strikes on a dark night in Karkidakam, changing their lives forever. The film then unfolds through a series of emotional and dramatic events.

Rafeeq Chokli stars as Johnny, with Delhi Malayali actress Tina Badiya playing the lead female role. Aparna Shibin takes on the role of the district collector leading rescue operations, with Boban Alumoodan playing another significant character.

The audio launch of Urul was held during the “Keralotsavam” event. The ceremony featured stars like Ramesh Pisharody and Tiny Tom, along with prominent political, cultural, and literary figures, as well as the crew members of Urul.
