Ustad Hotel Returns to Theaters: Re-release Date Announced

When asked in an interview about the films he felt most satisfied acting in, Dulquer Salmaan named Ustad Hotel as one of them. It’s a sentiment shared by audiences even today. The movie, which played a significant role in establishing Dulquer as a beloved actor, remains a favorite. His portrayal of Faizi, a young man navigating life-changing experiences, earned widespread praise.

Directed by Anwar Rasheed with a script by Anjali Menon, Ustad Hotel was released in June 2012. The film featured a stellar cast, including Thilakan, Nithya Menen, Lena, Mamukkoya, and Siddique, among others. Now, fans have reason to rejoice as the movie is set to return to theaters after 12 years.

The re-release is scheduled for January 3rd in Kerala’s PVR and INOX screens. Many consider Ustad Hotel to be one of the best films in Dulquer Salmaan’s career. It also showcased one of Thilakan’s most memorable performances. Produced by Listin Stephen under the Magic Frames banner, the film’s music, composed by Gopi Sundar, continues to resonate with fans, with its songs remaining timeless favorites.

Ustad Hotel earned widespread recognition, winning three National Film Awards among other accolades. It was also a unique experience for Dulquer, who had the chance to share the screen with the legendary Thilakan.

Shobi Thilakan, son of Thilakan, once shared an anecdote about his father’s rare words of praise for Dulquer’s performance in the film. “While traveling with my father from the set of Ustad Hotel to Riyadh, I casually asked him about Dulquer. My father usually finds it difficult to praise someone unless their work is exceptional. But this time, he said, ‘Considering his age, he’s doing really well. I had doubts whether someone his age could handle such a role, but he’s proving me wrong.’ It was the first time I had heard my father commend an actor so highly,” Shobi recalled.

With Ustad Hotel returning to theaters, fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to relive one of Dulquer’s most iconic films on the big screen. The excitement is palpable, and the re-release promises to be a treat for both old and new audiences.
