Even weeks after its release, Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran continues its triumphant run at the box office. The film has crossed ₹300 crores at the global box office and is still playing in theaters. Recently, Amaran achieved the top spot on BookMyShow’s ticket sales for this year’s Kollywood releases.
Amaran surpassed Vijay’s The GOAT to claim this achievement. While Vijay’s film sold 1.77 million tickets, Amaran reportedly sold 1,783,465 tickets. Due to the film’s immense popularity, reports suggest its OTT release might be delayed.
With Vijay reportedly taking a break from acting to focus on his political aspirations, fans are now asking who will take his place in Kollywood. The answer seems to be Sivakarthikeyan. Interestingly, Sivakarthikeyan had a cameo in Vijay’s The GOAT, where Vijay handed him a gun in a pivotal scene. This moment sparked widespread discussion, with fans interpreting it as Vijay passing on his mantle to Sivakarthikeyan.
Directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy, Amaran was released on October 31 under Kamal Haasan’s production company, Raaj Kamal Films. Since its release, the movie has been delivering a stellar performance at the box office.
Amaran is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a soldier who sacrificed his life for the nation. Sivakarthikeyan plays Mukund Varadarajan, while Sai Pallavi portrays his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, who still cherishes Mukund’s memories.
“Even after years, Mukund’s memories will stay with me, but people may forget him. That must not happen. Mukund should live in everyone’s hearts,” says Indhu in the film, encapsulating its essence. Audience reactions affirm that the film accomplishes this mission, with viewers leaving theaters with a “big salute” to Mukund.
The film showcases how a real-life story can be effectively transformed into cinema. Fans believe Amaran sets a benchmark in this regard. As the film continues to break records and overshadow Vijay’s The GOAT, many are convinced that Sivakarthikeyan is the rightful successor to Vijay in Kollywood.
