‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’ hits again with its re-release

Re-releases are currently trending in Mollywood, Hollywood, and Tollywood, and we’ve heard of films running for 100 or 200 days in theaters. But what if a re-released film completes 1000 days in theaters? That’s the exciting news right now. The film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and starring Silambarasan (Simbu) and Trisha in the lead roles, has completed 1000 days in theaters. The Simbu-Trisha film continues its impressive run in re-release. The movie is still being screened at PVR Cinemas in Anna Nagar, Chennai.

There’s only one show a day for the movie, leading to high demand in the theaters. Despite being released 14 years ago, the audience’s love for the film hasn’t waned. In this era where re-releases are trending, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa has now achieved the rare distinction of completing 1000 days in theaters.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was a film that created a storm in the hearts of the youth back in the day. The movie was a sensation not only in Tamil Nadu but also in Kerala. The intense love story of Karthik, a young man, for Jessie, a Malayali girl, was wholeheartedly embraced by moviegoers. It’s a Gautham Menon film that tells the story of lost love. Even today, it ranks at the top of the list of romantic films beloved by both Tamil and Malayalam audiences. The film was first released in 2010, and it broke away from the prevailing style of Tamil films at the time, earning massive appreciation from viewers.

The character Karthik, portrayed by Simbu, is one of the best roles in his career. Departing from the action-commercial films he was known for, Simbu appeared on screen as a simple middle-class young man, winning widespread applause. Trisha’s character Jessie also became one of the iconic female roles in Tamil cinema. The songs composed by A.R. Rahman gained immense popularity.

More than just being a unique love story, the film has a magical touch in every scene. The director mentioned in an interview that he wanted to capture real-life experiences in the film, recreating a love from his teenage years. He also said that much of his inspiration comes from the people and situations around him.

Regardless, the fact that Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa has completed 1000 days in theaters 14 years after its release in re-release is enough to understand how much love people still have for the film.
