What the Director Says About Nithya Menen

Nithya Menen, acclaimed for her memorable roles across Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu cinema, is known for her ability to make every character unforgettable. She even won the National Award for Best Actress for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam. However, Nithya is selective about her films, choosing projects based on stories that resonate with her.The actress avoids signing films solely based on big production houses or the presence of superstars. In a recent interview, Nithya revealed her lack of interest in films with massive budgets. Her selective approach, however, initially posed challenges in her career. Despite this, she overcame these hurdles and established herself as a celebrated actress.

Director Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, who helmed Nithya’s upcoming film Kaathalikka Neramillai, recently spoke about Nithya’s working style.

“If I wanted another take from her, she’d immediately ask what exactly I wanted. She’s a perfectionist. Before asking for another take, I needed to be clear about my requirements. She’d deliver in just two or three takes. If you ask for more than that…” Kiruthiga added with a smile. The director also noted, “This meticulous approach helps clarify the script and dialogues, making it a great experience for me as a director.”Kiruthiga, the wife of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister and actor-producer Udhayanidhi Stalin, directed Kaathalikka Neramillai starring Jayam Ravi, set to release on January 14.

Controversy in Malayalam Cinema

While many admire Nithya’s methods, they have also sparked disagreements in the industry. In the past, Nithya faced a temporary ban in the Malayalam film industry. The incident reportedly occurred on the sets of Thalsamayam Oru Penkutty. When prominent producers approached her for a discussion about another project, Nithya, who was working at the time, declined the meeting through her manager, saying it could be scheduled later. This led to a backlash, with the producers’ association declaring a ban on her. Though the issue was later resolved, Nithya became less active in Malayalam cinema, focusing more on Tamil and Telugu films. She later remarked that there were misunderstandings about her in the industry.Despite these challenges, Nithya continues to captivate audiences with her talent and dedication, cementing her position as one of the most respected actresses in Indian cinema.
