Sofia Paul, known for producing distinctive Malayalam films under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters, is back with a new project titled Detective Ujjwal. The film’s shoot has commenced at the renowned Karthiattu Mana in Pattambi.
The movie is co-written and directed by Rahul G. and Indranil Gopikrishnan, marking the debut of this duo in Malayalam cinema. Having studied together since the 10th grade and completed a three-year filmmaking course at Whistling Woods International in Mumbai, the duo is making their directorial debut with this film.
Sofia Paul mentioned that the project was committed back in 2022 but was delayed due to the completion of prior commitments. Now ready to move forward, the film promises to be a full-fledged investigative comedy thriller. Dhyan Sreenivasan plays the titular role of Detective Ujjwal, supported by performances from Siju Wilson, Kottayam Nazeer, Dr. Rony David Raj, and Seema G. Nair. Additionally, four newcomers—Ameen, Nihal, Nibras, and Shahubas—will also make their debut in this film.
The songs, penned by Vinayak Sasikumar, are composed by R.C. Prem Akkudu and Shreyanti handle the cinematography. The duo, a husband-and-wife team, previously worked on the Tamil film Gargi starring Sai Pallavi, and this marks their debut in Malayalam cinema.
