“I Couldn’t Bear It, I Broke Down in Tears”: Dharmajan

Actor Dharmajan Bolgatty opened up about a significant loss he faced during the 2018 Kerala floods. Speaking in an interview with Vanitha magazine, Dharmajan shared that he lost a treasured collection of books he used to read repeatedly. “When I saw my books soaked in water and mud, I couldn’t handle it—I broke down in tears,” he said.

“We grew up in a childhood without toys or color pencils. But one thing we had in abundance was reading. My father would often buy me books and say, ‘If you read ten good books, you’ll be able to write at least ten lines.’ During the 2018 floods, the ground floor of my house was submerged.”

“I had left home to assist with rescue operations. When I returned after the waters receded, I saw my books lying in mud and water. I couldn’t take it. I cried. Among the ruined books were some I loved and often revisited,” Dharmajan recalled.

Although Dharmajan was born and raised in Bolgatty, he now resides in Varapuzha, Kochi. Known for his comedic performances, Dharmajan entered the film industry with Pappy Appacha, starring Dileep. His most recent film to hit theaters was Porotta Natakam.
