Actor Jagadish recently revealed in an interview with The Cue that he disagreed with the tragic climax of the Mohanlal-starrer Vandanam. He admitted to having an argument with director Priyadarshan over the ending. Jagadish expressed his difficulty in watching films with tragic conclusions.
“I had a disagreement with Priyadarshan regarding the climax of Vandanam. I believed the hero and heroine should unite in the end. But Priyadarshan told Haneefa that the way it was written would leave an impact on the audience, and they shouldn’t meet,” said Jagadish.
He shared his long-standing aversion to tragic endings:
“Growing up, I watched many of M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s films, which often had tragic climaxes. I’d return home feeling deeply sad. Back then, whenever I’d hear about a movie, I’d ask people not to spoil the story but tell me one thing: if a child trapped in a pit at the end gets rescued. If they said yes, I’d watch it. If not, I’d avoid it.”
Jagadish also elaborated on his preference for optimistic endings:
“Even if 75% of a film is filled with evil, I want goodness to prevail in the end. If not, it’s hard for me to handle. I’m not saying such movies are bad, but I find it difficult to watch them.”
Jagadish’s comments shed light on his perspective as an actor and audience member, emphasizing his emotional connection to storytelling and his preference for uplifting conclusions.
