Is this the real reason for the delay of Vidamuyarchi

Vidamuyarchi is an upcoming film starring Ajith Kumar. Fans are eagerly awaiting its theatrical release, but the movie’s release has been postponed indefinitely. In early December, the film’s first promo hinted at a Pongal release. However, in early January, the producers announced that the release had been delayed. The producers cited “unavoidable reasons” for the delay, which left fans deeply disappointed. It has been over a year since Vidamuyarchi was announced, and January 11 will mark two years since Ajith Kumar’s last movie hit theaters. The production faced hurdles, including the sudden passing of the film’s co-director Milan due to a heart attack during the shoot. Ajith himself sustained injuries and returned to India for recovery before resuming filming. These challenges contributed to delays.

Now, audiences are speculating about the actual reason behind the delay. Earlier, when the teaser was released, reports suggested that Vidamuyarchi drew inspiration from the Hollywood hit Breakdown (1997). However, there has been no confirmation about it being a remake. Later, Paramount Pictures, the rights holders of Breakdown, reportedly demanded a hefty sum as remake rights. Initially, they sought ₹125 crores but later insisted on at least ₹80 crores before the release. This reportedly put the film’s producers, Lyca Productions, in a tough spot. They have already invested a significant amount in the project due to its extended schedule. While the producers initially planned to release the film and resolve legal issues later, they were warned that this approach could lead to severe consequences. As a result, Lyca Productions is now attempting to negotiate a production partnership deal with Paramount.

Meanwhile, Kollywood insiders note that Vidamuyarchi lost a prime release date due to these disputes. If a settlement with Paramount is not reached soon, the movie’s release may face further indefinite delays.
