Mohanlal’s Barroz Surpasses Manjummel Boys on Opening Day Collections

Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz has been moving forward with mixed reactions in theaters. The film, set in the period fantasy genre, is aimed primarily at children. Reports regarding its first-day collections have now surfaced, indicating that Barroz collected ₹3.6 crore on its release day.

This figure surpasses the opening-day collections of the Malayalam films Bougainvillea and Manjummel Boys, both of which garnered ₹3.3 crore. According to Indian net collection reports, Barroz closely trails the ₹3.65 crore of the film Aavesham. Being a pan-Indian release is a notable feature of Barroz, and the film had already secured over ₹1 crore in Kerala alone through advance bookings.

Based on a story by Jijo, the creator of My Dear Kuttichathan, Barroz is a 3D fantasy film with a reported budget of ₹100 crore. Mohanlal plays the titular character, while Santosh Sivan handles cinematography, and Santosh Raman is in charge of production design. The creative head for the project is director T.K. Rajeev Kumar, with Antony Perumbavoor as the producer.

Mohanlal himself appeared at the Forum Mall in Kochi to watch the film, interacting with the audience and sharing his vision for Barroz. He mentioned, “This is a film not only for children but also for the child within every adult. After nearly 1650 days of effort, I feel a sense of liberation, just like Barroz himself. This is a children-friendly film, but it also focuses on the inner child in adults.”

The movie’s technical aspects, including its native 3D shooting with stereo lenses, mark it as a unique experience. Mohanlal added, “It has been 40 years since an Indian 3D film of this scale was made. The techniques, soundscape, and every element have been crafted differently. This is not just a film to watch; it’s an experience. Sudden pans, tilts, or cuts might feel overwhelming for some viewers, so we’ve made it with the audience’s comfort in mind.”

Barroz stands as a significant milestone in Indian cinema, especially for Malayalam films, blending technology and storytelling to create a unique cinematic experience.
