Pak Hackers Claim to Have Breached Multiple Indian Defence Sites

 Cyber attack raises serious security issues across Indian security network

In a worrying cybersecurity-related incident an Pakistani cybercriminal group is claiming to be responsible for the breach of several Indian defense-related websites and servers and causing widespread concern regarding the vulnerability of digital technology in our the national security infrastructure.

The group, which identifies itself as ” Team Revolution Pakistan,” uploaded images and claims of sensitive leaks of data on dark web forums as well as social networking platforms. They claimed that they had obtained confidential data from defense procuring departmentsarmy communication servers as well as training courses from Indian army branches.

 “We have shown the world how fragile India’s so-called digital defence really is,” hackers said in a deleted post on Telegram.

What Has Been Breached?

The initial reports indicate that sites linked to logistic helpinternal training documents as well as administrative systems that were not operational have been targeted. The report does not provide no definitive confirmation yet as to whether classified data on strategic information has been stolen.

Internal sources within the Indian Cyber Command told ArtKerala.com that investigations are in progress and that defensive measures are already in place to limit harm.

A senior official of the Indian Defence Cyber Agency (DCA) made the following comment in private:

 “While no critical combat systems were compromised, we are treating this as a high-priority incident due to the origin and motive.”

A Pattern of Provocation

It isn’t an isolated incident. Pakistani hackers have tried cyber-attacks on Indian assets. Recently, a number of Indian institutions, including energy gridsairport systems as well as websites of the government were subjected to cyber-warfare attempts particularly during the heightened geopolitical tensions.

Experts believe that such actions are usually created to:

  •   Make public fear

  •   Undermine trust in digital defence infrastructure

  •   Leak and extract documents that are not public policy

What India Is Doing Now

  •      CERT-IN (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team)   

  •      National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO)   

  •      Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA)   

The military in all zones have been directed to immediately review digital logs and to strengthen all gateways to the internet with more encryption protocols.

External Analysis

According to a report from CyberPeace Foundation, India is the victim of more than the 40,000 cyber attacks that are attempted each day and 30% coming via foreign adversarial networks Many of them are traced in Pakistan as well as China.

Cybersecurity strategist Rahul Vaidya warns:

 “India must now take cyberwarfare with the same seriousness as aerial or ground threats. Any system that is not patched is an open field.”
