Suresh Gopi, a beloved Malayalam actor and Union Minister, is often in the spotlight for family news circulating on social media. Now, it’s his wife, Radhika Suresh Gopi, who is making headlines for entering the film industry. However, Radhika isn’t venturing into acting; instead, she is debuting as a playback singer. Radhika, who is the granddaughter of renowned Aranmula Ponnamma, also has a passion for singing.
A video of Radhika performing in a musical concert for Vaikathashtami recently garnered attention. Her childhood friend and actress, Annie, was the inspiration behind Radhika rekindling her love for singing. Radhika is lending her voice to a song in a movie directed by Jagan, the eldest son of director Shaji Kailas and Annie, who is lovingly called “Unni.”
“This child is like my own. Singing in his film is like a prayer for me,” Radhika said emotionally.
Recently, the recording of the song Maarivillin Arike Koottu Vacha Kiliye… Manasil Pozhiyum Pranaya Raamazha took place in Thiruvananthapuram. The film is yet to be titled. During her school days, Radhika had previously sung in an album composed by M.G. Radhakrishnan. Though she has sung on stage since, this is her first playback song in a film. “After a long break, I felt nervous singing again, but it was Annie, whom I call Chithra, who encouraged me,” Radhika shared. The two families have shared a close bond for many years.
“Chithra always told me I would sing in films someday. Once Unni heard this, he too wished for it, and now that dream has come true. Unni is truly a blessing for us,” Radhika expressed. As for future singing opportunities in cinema, Radhika says she has no particular plans. The song’s lyrics were penned by Manu Ranjith and composed by Ranjan Raj. The film stars Ranjith Panicker, Siju Wilson, Sreejith Ravi, among others, with its initial scenes filmed in Palakkad. Director Jagan shared that the song recording exceeded his expectations.
