“Sookshmadarshini” Originated from ‘In Harihar Nagar’

The movie Sookshmadarshini draws inspiration from In Harihar Nagar, as revealed by its screenwriters, Athul Ramachandran and Libin, in an interview with a reporter. While designing the concept of the film, director M.S. insisted on making it a neighborhood-based story. Hence, the location played a significant role. Initially, we thought about iconic Malayalam neighborhood films. Gandhinagar Second Street and In Harihar Nagar were the first ones that came to mind,” the writers shared.

“The plot of In Harihar Nagar revolves around the story of four unemployed youths living near a family. In our case, we replaced the youths with homemakers. Instead of the ‘Maya and family’ dynamic in In Harihar Nagar, we developed ‘Manuval and family.’ The character study of the homemaker in our film was inspired by Vadakkunokkiyanthram. That’s where the title Sookshmadarshini came from. Later, Priyadarshini and the other homemakers became integral parts of the narrative. We visualized the exact placement of their homes and built the script around that. Geography plays a vital role in this film. Finding the right locations for the houses was a significant process. After scouting several places, we even placed an ad to locate a suitable spot. We finally found the perfect location six months before the shoot,” they explained.

The film Sookshmadarshini, featuring Nazriya Nazim and Basil Joseph in the lead roles, also stars Deepak Parambol, Siddharth Bharathan, Kottayam Ramesh, Akhila Bhargavan, Pooja Mohanraj, Merin Philip, Manohari Joy, Hess Mehak, Gopan Mangatt, Jaya Kurup, Rini Udayakumar, James, Naushad Ali, Aparna Ram, Saraswati Menon, and Abhiram Radhakrishnan in prominent roles.

Produced under the banners of Happy Hours Entertainments and AVA Productions, the film is helmed by Sameer Thahir, Shaiju Khalid, and AV Anoop. The screenplay was written by Libin and Athul, while the music for the movie was composed by Christo Xavier.
