Nazriya Nazim recently shared her emotional connection with the iconic film Thanmathra, directed by Blessy and released in 2005. Based on Padmarajan’s short story Orma, the film portrayed Mohanlal as Rameshan Nair, a man battling Alzheimer’s disease. The emotional depth of the movie and Mohanlal’s powerful performance left a lasting impression on audiences.
In a recent interview, Nazriya revealed that Blessy had initially approached her to play Mohanlal’s daughter in the film. However, due to scheduling conflicts, she couldn’t take up the role. “Blessy uncle called me first for Thanmathra to play Lalettan’s daughter. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it, and that’s how I ended up acting in Palunku with Mammootty,” she said.
Nazriya also expressed how deeply the film’s climactic scene, where Mohanlal’s character passes away, affected her. “There’s a scene at the end where Lalettan is lying down in bed, and he passes away in that same position. Even today, thinking about that scene makes me cry,” she admitted.
Thanmathra remains one of Mohanlal’s most acclaimed films, praised for its poignant portrayal of a family’s struggle with Alzheimer’s. Alongside Mohanlal, the film featured Meera Vasudev, Nedumudi Venu, and Mohanlal’s on-screen children, played by Arjun Lal and Baby Niranjana.
Nazriya’s remarks have brought back memories of the film for fans, who continue to celebrate its emotional depth and masterful storytelling.
