Unni Mukundan, a well-loved actor in Malayalam cinema, recently shared some heartfelt insights about his journey in the film industry. Coming from a background with no connections in cinema, he has grown into a beloved star, venturing beyond acting into film production. Currently, Unni is eagerly awaiting the release of his ambitious movie Marko, which has created quite a buzz among fans.
Reflecting on his early struggles, Unni revealed that there were times he considered quitting acting due to the challenges he faced on set. “I have heard so many criticisms, and there have been moments when I couldn’t handle the insults and ended up in tears,” Unni confessed.
“There was a time when I seriously thought about giving up acting,” he said, describing how he felt isolated without any support system. Unlike many of his peers who grew up in Kerala with friends and family around, Unni had no one to turn to for support during those early days. He didn’t even know how to read or write Malayalam at the time and had no one to confide in on the sets. Facing numerous challenges and negative remarks alone was emotionally overwhelming.
Unni credits actor Lal (Mohanlal) with helping him find his footing, especially during their work together on Vikramadithyan. “I questioned whether I really belonged in the industry, but Lalettan (Mohanlal) encouraged me to keep going,” Unni said. That experience gave him confidence, and he realized he had the potential to succeed as an actor. “My love for cinema was genuine, which is why I held on despite everything,” he explained, adding that his journey has taught him many lessons, even through his mistakes.
Reflecting on his growth, Unni expressed gratitude for the inner strength he found during tough times. “When I faced problems, controversies, and challenges, I prayed alone, asking for help. I truly believe that God showed me compassion in those moments.”
Despite the struggles, Unni’s perseverance has led him to become one of Malayalam cinema’s most admired actors today, proving his resilience and dedication to his craft.
