Maharaja a Tamil blockbuster starring Vijay Sethupathi has achieved significant success. The film, which was released in Indian theaters in June, began screening in China in November. Vijay Sethupathi’s performance has received widespread acclaim from Chinese audiences. Reports reveal that as of November 29, the film has grossed ₹91.55 crore in China. It is expected to cross the ₹100 crore mark soon. According to the Chinese Embassy’s report, Maharaja has become the highest-grossing Indian film in China in the past five years.
Reports indicate that Maharaja earned more than ₹19.19 crore on its opening day in China, making it the highest opening collection for an Indian film in the country. Indian films have always enjoyed great popularity in China. Prior to Maharaja, other Indian films like Aamir Khan’s Dangal and Secret Superstar were also well-received. The second installment of Baahubali, which was screened in 18,000 theaters, remains the Indian film with the widest release in China.
Maharaja is a suspense thriller directed by Tamil hitmaker Nithilan Swaminathan. The film features an ensemble cast, including Abhirami, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Boys Manikandan, Singampuli, Bharathiraja, Vinodh Sagar, and P. L. Thenappan, alongside prominent actors like Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Nataraj. Produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy under the banners Passion Studios and The Route, Maharaja has captivated audiences both in India and overseas.
