One of the most anticipated films in Malayalam cinema, Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has been shrouded in mystery. Even as the film’s shooting has concluded, the story and other key details remain tightly guarded secrets. Actor Nandu, who is part of the cast, recently revealed in an interview that he has no clue about the film’s villain or its complete storyline.
“To be honest, I don’t even know who the villain in Empuraan is. Only four people—scriptwriter Murali Gopy, director Prithviraj, lead actor Mohanlal, and producer Antony Perumbavoor—know the full story,” Nandu stated. He added that Mohanlal’s character in the film has multiple dimensions, making the narrative even more complex. “This is a film that works on dual tracks, and overthinking it is pointless,” he said.
Nandu mentioned that his focus was solely on performing his role. “Even if Prithviraj asked me to narrate the story, I would decline. I believe this is a film we should experience in theaters. Knowing the story beforehand would take away that thrill,” he added, expressing his excitement for the theatrical experience.
Empuraan, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, completed its shooting on December 3, 2023. Filming began on October 5, 2023, in Delhi and spanned across multiple locations, including Shimla, Ladakh, Gujarat, Dubai, the USA, England, and Kerala. The final scene was shot near the Malampuzha Dam reservoir.
Director Prithviraj shared the update on social media, writing, “At 5:35 AM today, on the shores of the Malampuzha Reservoir, we completed the last shot of Empuraan. See you in theaters in 117 days.”
The film is set to release on March 27, 2024, with a star-studded cast featuring Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Saikumar, Fazil, Baiju, Saniya Iyappan, and more.
