The film Bougainvillea, marking the remarkable comeback of Malayali star Jyothirmayi after 11 years, has captured the audience’s attention. Directed by Amal Neerad, the movie also features Fahadh Faasil and Kunchacko Boban in pivotal roles. Released in theaters on October 17, 2024, the film has been well-received by audiences and critics alike. Fans are now eagerly awaiting its OTT release. However, according to recent reports, the OTT release might take some more time.
Inspired by Lajo Jose’s novel Roothinte Lokam, Bougainvillea has a screenplay co-written by Lajo Jose and Amal Neerad. Produced under the banners of Amal Neerad Productions and Udaya Pictures, the film features music by Sushin Shyam. The cast also includes Sharaf U Dheen, Veena Nandakumar, Srinath Bhasi, Jinu Joseph, Nishtar Sait, Shoby Thilakan, Vijilesh Karayad, Aathira Patel, Varsha Ramesh, Geethi Sangeetha, Naveena VM, and Rohini Rahul. At the box office, the film has already amassed over ₹35 crore.
Discussions regarding the film’s OTT release are currently underway. Talks with Disney+ Hotstar for streaming rights are in progress. Based on the usual practice of OTT releases happening around 45 days post-theatrical release, Bougainvillea is expected to start streaming in the first week of December 2024.
