The actor Kamal Haasan has long been fondly called “Ulaganayagan” by his fans. For years, this title has been synonymous with his name. However, the actor recently expressed that he no longer wishes to be addressed by this title.
In a press release that surprised his fans, Kamal Haasan stated what names he prefers to be called by from now on, sharing his statement on social media.
“You have given me various names, including ‘Ulaganayagan,’ out of your affection for me. I am grateful for the admiration from fellow artists and fans. I will always be thankful for your love. But I believe that cinema, as an art form, is larger than any individual. I see myself merely as a student who wishes to continue learning and growing in this art.
Like other arts, cinema belongs to everyone. It is a collaborative effort involving talented artists, technical experts, and audiences alike. I deeply believe that no artist is greater than the art itself. I want to remain conscious of my imperfections and my duties for constant improvement. That is why, after much thought, I have come to this decision. I feel compelled to humbly reject these titles and epithets. I am grateful for all the love and kindness shown to me over the years. Please understand that this decision comes from a place rooted in humility and respect for my purpose,” Kamal Haasan added.
