OTT releases are something movie lovers eagerly look forward to, and this week brought a variety of new films to streaming platforms. Among them are Vishnu Unnikrishnan’s Idiyan Chandu and the Suraj Venjaramoodu-Vinayakan starrer Thekku Vadakku, both of which have started streaming.
Idiyan Chandu has become a favorite among family audiences. The film features Vishnu Unnikrishnan in a never-seen-before avatar, which has become its major highlight. Although the movie revolves around the lives of Plus Two students, it also integrates stories of their families. The film conveys that every blow has a reason, giving depth to its narrative.
Chandu, the son of Idiyan Chandran, a policeman at Palluruthy station, was notorious for his hot temper from a young age. His surroundings nicknamed him “Idiyan Chandu” for his knack for fights. The anger he harbored against his abusive father, who regularly beat his mother, became the driving force behind Chandu’s actions.
Idiyan Chandu is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Directed by Sreejith Vijayan, who also penned the script, the movie features Salim Kumar in a shocking villainous role. The cast also includes Lalu Alex, Johny Antony, Lena, and Fukru, among others.
Another noteworthy release is Thekku Vadakku, starring Vinayakan and Suraj Venjaramoodu as central characters. Directed by Prem Shankar, the film portrays the lives of two middle-aged men. The movie is now streaming on Manorama Max and is available on Simply South for international viewers. This is the first time Suraj and Vinayakan are sharing the lead roles. With a focus on comedy, the film received mixed responses in theaters. It is based on S. Hareesh’s story Rathri Kaval, with the screenplay also written by Hareesh.
Additionally, the Kannada film Bagheera and the Hollywood movie Alien: Romulus are also among this week’s new OTT releases.
