“Kanguva” is a big-budget Tamil movie directed by Siruthai Siva and starring Tamil superstar Suriya. Despite the massive hype, the film failed to achieve the expected success in theaters. Reports suggest that the movie, which was made on a budget of ₹350 crores, couldn’t even recover half of its production cost.
Recently, the movie was released on Amazon Prime for OTT streaming. Reports indicate that the OTT version underwent a 13-minute trim before its release.
The scenes cut include portions from the first half of the movie. The song “Yolo” was removed entirely, along with several scenes featuring Disha Patani’s character Angelina. Additionally, sequences such as “The Boys,” “Moye Moye,” and some scenes featuring Yogi Babu were also edited out for the OTT version.
Meanwhile, criticism from Tamil Nadu theater owners about the movie’s underperformance has been circulating on social media. Some theater owners accused the filmmakers of creating unnecessary hype through their pre-release statements. During a discussion on the YouTube channel Rednull, these owners openly shared their thoughts about Kanguva. Rohini Theater owner Revanth commented, “The movie performed well in theaters, but some interviews set unrealistic expectations, which backfired.”
Kanguva was released in theaters on November 14. In the movie, Suriya plays dual roles as Kanguva and Francis, while Bollywood actor Bobby Deol portrays the villain. However, excessive sound design, repetitive screenplay elements, and other flaws were cited as reasons for the movie’s failure. Reports label it as one of the biggest flops of the year.
