“My Sons Don’t Have a Quality that Mohanlal Has,” Says Mallika Sukumaran

Veteran actress Mallika Sukumaran recently shared fond memories of superstar Mohanlal, who, she says, has a childlike charm and humility that her own sons, Indrajith and Prithviraj, don’t quite possess. Having grown up playing at her home, Mohanlal holds a special place in her heart.

“For me, Lal is always like a child. He played and grew up in our house, and his mischievousness often left everyone on edge. Whenever he visited, I felt it was my responsibility to look after him. We studied in the same school, and his brother, Manianpilla Raju, and I were in the same batch. One day, I heard he was acting in Ashok Kumar’s film, and I was happy for him. Lal is a man of many talents,” she said, explaining how she has always considered him a younger brother.

Mallika noted how, despite his towering success, Mohanlal remains patient and humble—a quality she feels her sons lack. “He has an incredible ability to smile and be patient, even in the busiest moments, with both fans and friends,” she remarked, adding, “It’s a wonderful quality.”

She also recalled watching Manjil Virinja Pookkal on its release day, drawn by Mohanlal’s debut. “Mohanlal’s acting prowess is something I always encouraged my sons to learn from, especially his patience,” she explained.

In Mallika’s view, Mohanlal’s versatility has elevated him to a level in cinema few can achieve. “For me, he is still that child who grew up with us. I can never approach him formally because he still feels like family. No one here has anything negative to say about Mohanlal; if they do, it’s likely out of jealousy of his success,” she concluded. The duo last appeared together in Bro Daddy, and Mohanlal is currently filming Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj.
