Vani Viswanath, once a reigning action star in Malayalam cinema, is now making her long-awaited return to the industry. Known for her bold roles and police characters, Vani earned her place beside lead actors with a powerful screen presence. Her impressive performances led to the title of Action Queen of Malayalam cinema.
After stepping away from films following her marriage to actor Baburaj, Vani embraced family life and raised two children. When asked why she stayed away from acting for so long, Vani candidly admitted that she had no regrets, as her family brought her more joy than cinema. Her children, however, often wondered why their mother wasn’t acting, especially after seeing some of her films.
Reminiscing about her career, Vani shared a memorable anecdote from the film The King, where she starred alongside Mammootty. In a key scene, as her character was about to strike Mammootty’s character, he delivered the line, “Your hand shouldn’t be raised against anyone again.” Vani humorously noted that it was after this scene that her career truly took off, and her “hand” did rise to iconic roles. Inspired by Telugu actress Vijayashanti’s police roles, Vani had once wondered if she could take on similar characters. Eventually, those roles found their way to her, marking her as an action icon in Malayalam cinema.
Her upcoming projects, including Oru Anveshanathinte Kadha, are anticipated to showcase her talent in powerful roles that her fans eagerly await. Vani aims to meet audience expectations with her return, stating she is ready to take on compelling characters that match her legacy. Fans of Malayalam cinema are excited for the Action Queen’s much-anticipated comeback, awaiting the energy and strength she will bring to her new roles.
