Unni Mukundan has established himself in Malayalam cinema without any industry roots or connections. Since his debut 12 years ago, he has grown into a beloved actor, even stepping into film production. Currently, Unni is eagerly awaiting the release of Marko, the biggest project of his career.
Reaching his current position in Malayalam cinema wasn’t easy. Originally from Gujarat, Unni Mukundan has often spoken about his early struggles, like traveling to Kerala for auditions and facing the challenge of not knowing how to read or write Malayalam. He also addresses controversies and the cyberbullying he and actor Prithviraj faced early in their careers.
In a recent interview, Unni Mukundan shared, “Even though the reasons were different, it’s true that we were targeted as a group. But unlike Prithvi, I didn’t have anyone in the industry to back me up or guide me on how to handle it. Still, I managed to stand my ground.” Unni also shared how Prithviraj overcame online bullying, saying, “Those who ridiculed Prithvi back then are nowhere to be seen now. He ignored it, focused on his work, and rose to be one of India’s finest actors and producers. I too managed to stay relevant without fading away. In the online world, anyone can say anything, but if you stay focused, that’s all that matters.”
Addressing questions about his marriage, Unni Mukundan commented, “Marriage is something that should happen naturally. It’s not on my agenda. If it happens, it happens,” expressing faith that it will occur at the right time.
Unni’s latest film, Marko, directed by Haneef Adeni, is a spin-off of the character he played in Mikhael, starring Nivin Pauly. Today, he enjoys a significant fan following, a testament to his hard work, and each update about Marko has his fans thrilled.
