Following the massive success of KGF 2, Yash’s announcement to star in Geethu Mohandas’ film Toxic surprised many fans, especially after a two-year hiatus. Unlike expectations for another blockbuster commercial project, Yash’s decision to join Toxic marked a departure from the norm.
However, the film is now mired in controversy due to allegations of illegal deforestation during shooting. Reports indicate that over a hundred trees were cut down at the HMT compound in Bengaluru for the film’s production. The Karnataka Forest Department has confirmed that these trees were located in a protected forest area, and satellite images have been released as evidence of the damage.
Originally announced in 2023, Toxic was slated for release on April 10, 2025. However, Yash has clarified in interviews that the film will not meet this release date. This film marks Geethu Mohandas’ return to direction after working with Nivin Pauly in Moothon, and Sai Pallavi is set to star as the female lead, marking her debut in Kannada cinema. The film reportedly revolves around a drug cartel operating in Goa.
Yash has expressed admiration for Geethu’s storytelling and passion, stating that while he hasn’t seen her previous works, her dedication to creating a compelling narrative drew him to the project. “I appreciate the effort and clarity they have about what’s needed for this film. It’s about combining two different worlds at the right time,” Yash explained. He emphasized that every film should have a vision, and Toxic stands apart from Geethu’s earlier films.
As fans eagerly anticipate the release, the situation surrounding Toxic raises questions about the film’s future amidst environmental concerns. Many are left wondering what the next steps will be in light of the ongoing controversy.
