The Malayalam film artists’ association, AMMA, organized a family gathering to celebrate Diwali and Kerala Piravi (Kerala Formation Day). Celebrations took place at AMMA’s office in Kochi, where MP and actor Suresh Gopi hinted at the formation of a new committee. He mentioned discussing the matter with Mohanlal and added that he has initiated the necessary steps, promising to bring everyone back together.
Actor Vinu Mohan commented that AMMA remains active, and its daily operations are functioning smoothly. He also noted that discussions and evaluations regarding the committee are ongoing, with a decision expected soon.
The organization had recently faced a shake-up when, following an online emergency meeting of the actors’ association, it was decided to disband the committee after allegations of sexual misconduct and misconduct against committee members emerged. Following this, in late August, 17 members, including President and senior actor Mohanlal, submitted their resignations. A new executive committee had been elected in June 2024 with a tenure until 2027.
Actor Siddique, AMMA’s former general secretary, was the first to resign following a young actress’s allegations of sexual misconduct. This step was taken in the wake of the Hema Committee report, which investigated issues faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. Following the report, AMMA’s committee accepted moral responsibility for the situation and collectively resigned.
Nonetheless, Suresh Gopi affirmed that AMMA is set to return strongly, with a new committee expected soon. He mentioned that he had begun discussions with Mohanlal regarding the formation of the new committee, promising efforts to bring everyone together.
